On August 29, 2949 the Soviet Union tested its first ever atomic bomb called the Manhattan project. The Manhattan Project was on of the many bombs dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States during the Arms Race. The Arms Race was a competition between nations for the better of bombs and weapons. Regarding the Arms Race one of the major goals of the two countries was that each of the parties compete to have more weapons and greater armies. In 1952 the United States developed a Hydrogen bomb, compared to an A-bomb the Hydrogen Bomb worked by processing nuclear fusion to create a huge amount of heat and radiation.
In 1957, the United States tested the ICBM which stands for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile which was used to deliver nuclear arms from long ranges. The ICBM was eventually successful in 1958. In 1957 the United States developed the Atlas Missile which was a missile that was converted into an atlas "space booster" and was used to launch early "block I" GPS satellites. The United States also developed the Minutemen Missile which was a 56 foot 3 stage missile that was the first Intercontinental Ballistic Missile to use soil fuel and also shoots thermonuclear warheads. In the United States today, there 4,804 nuclear bombs. In the Soviet Union/ Russia there are 1,512 nuclear bombs.
